UCLA’s Afrikan People's Graduation Ceremony began in 1979 through the hard work and dedication of 14 students who noticed the importance of establishing a ceremony for students with the Afrikan Diaspora. Since then, students of the Afrikan diaspora continue to participate in this ceremony of tradition in order to celebrate their accomplishments at UCLA. Afrikan Graduation is significant because it represents achievement, perseverance, and resilience for Black/Afrikan students.
